Architects Marco Pusterla & Jesús Mateo
Jesús Mateo, born 1971 in Cuenca, Spain, is an architect educated both in Spain and Sweden, with Swedish Arkitekt diploma from Lunds Tekniska Högskola (1999). He is a member of the Architects Association in Madrid, where he has had his own practice since 2000, ZERO ARQUITECTOS. His professional activity is run nowadays from Lund, where part of his family comes from, working on his own projects and cooperating regularly with different architecture firms in Sweden. Jesús Mateo is a SAR/MSA arkitekt since 2009.
His abilities as an architect have proven successful by achieving awards like the five EUROPAN prizes (the most prestigious international award for European young architects) once in Spain (Almería), once in Norway (Lillestrøm) and three times in Sweden (Kristianstad, Varberg and Lerum). Besides participating in many international competitions and parallel assignments, he has taken care of projects and building follow-ups of mainly housing and industrial projects in Spain. Jesús Mateo has also worked several years for a larger engineering company based in Madrid being in charge of the Architecture Engineering Department and giving support to other architects, engineers and municipalities.
As an Europan prize-winner he has kept a tight connection with the academic world through the participation in workshops and exhibitions, giving lectures at universities and writing articles for catalogues and design periodicals. Jesús Mateo started his PhD studies in the autumn 2007 on the general subject “Theory of the Architectural Project” at Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid where he has even worked as an assistant teacher in Projects 3. Nowadays he is a guest teacher at Lunds Tekniska Högskola in the Advanced Architectural Design projects studio at the architecture school in Lund, Sweden.
Marco Pusterla
Marco Pusterla, Born 1975 in Sondrio, Italy, studied architecture at Politecnico di Milano and participated in ERASMUS (international exchange programme) at Lunds Tekniska Högskola, Sweden in 1997-98. He graduated 2001 under Sergio Crotti (I) and Aurelio Galfetti (CH). The diploma work was rewarded with Archiport Award and was selected to represent the Faculty at an exhibition at the National Museum of Architecture in Ferrara (I) in 2002.
Marco Pusterla is today one of the partners of FOJAB arkitekter, where he has been working since 2003. Some of his projects have been built, amongst them a monument/public space in Bianzone (I), the main square of Chiuro (I) with its surrounding public spaces and Eksandhs commercial building in Lund (S). A reassessment project for the town center of Lomma (S). The photovoltaic installation designed with Mats Österberg for the House of Ecology at Lunds University (S) has been rewarded as a “Photovoltaic installation of the year 2008” and nominated for the price “Skåne Solar Award”.
He has participated in several architectural competitions and parallel assignments, winning EUROPAN 10 in Lerum (S), second prize for EUROPAN 12 in Kalmar (S) and the second prize in EUROPAN 5 Almeria, (E), with David Sim, Jesus Mateo, the third prize in the competition for a cemetery in Berbenno (I) with Daniele Vanotti and the third price in the competition for an architectonical and functional renewal of the center of Cepina (I) with Andrea Forni and Aurelio Valenti.
As a complement to his work as an architect he has been a teaching assistant and lecturing at Politecnico di Milano (I) in 2002 and at Lunds Tekniska Högskola (S) in several occasions from 2003. At Chalmers (Gothebourg) in 2009-10. In Salerno in 2012 and Piacenza in 2013.
